Jenna Makino Aolani Matsuura

Jazz & Technique

Dancing since the age of 4, Jenna has grown up in the dance studio. She has trained under many excellent teachers in ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, tap, hula, Tahitian, hip hop, and musical theatre. Jenna has competed in several local and national competitions, master dance workshops, and ballet intensives. Jenna has partaken in several musical productions, including Annie Jr., Beauty and the Beast, Peter and the Wolf (lead dancer), Cinderella, Kamehameha Schools Ho`ike in the annual Song Contest, and has been cast as almost every role in the popular seasonal Nutcracker performance.

Jenna was a member of the Principal Company in the Kamehameha Dance Company for all four years of high school, while also in the Kamehameha School’s Hawaiian Ensemble where she was privileged to be an officer her Senior year. She has won numerous awards: overall high point student choreographer (several times), Triple Crown award, along with several overall and high point awards with the Sabrina Starr Dance Team. Jenna has taught at various dance studios across the island and enjoyed volunteering for the Kamehameha School’s Summer Performing Arts Program. Currently, Jenna is a member of the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warrior Dancers and dances hula for Ka Leo O Laka I Ka Hikina O Ka La, an award winning halau, under the direction of Kumu Kaleo Trinidad. She has participated in several Merrie Monarch contests and has danced hula locally, nationally, and internationally.
