Kimi Fergerstrom is an avid performer and has always had a deep love for dance. She is currently the Contemporary Dance teacher and has been teaching at Applause! Performance Academy since its grand opening in 2007. Being a full time elementary teacher, she has the heart and skill to work with children of all types. She is a mother of 1 and is a proud "dance mom".
Kimi has been a choreographer for APA's dance team since 2008 where her private choreography has received hard earned medals including a 1st place overall Petite Division trophy, divisional top 5 national ranking, and divisional top 5 and top 10 regional rankings.
Kimi keeps her training up to date by attending workshops around the island in many dance styles. She has attended workshops by Jeffery Daniels (Michael Jackson's choreographer), Poreotix (ABDC 2010 Winners), Mahi'ai Kekumu, Isaac Calpito, Edward Dias, Rae Toledo and Yuki Ozeki.
Kimi has been been dancing since she was 3 years old and has been trained in Contemporary/Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Tap, Ballet, and Hula. Her extensive training has given her many dance opportunities. She has performed in HBT's Nutcracker for many years and other ballet productions including Scheherazade, Snow White, and Ka Manu Ahi. Once a member of the dance group MASC, Kimi had the privelege to compete in California and perform in the "happiest place on Earth," Disneyland. She later joined Genesis, an elite dance group, which toured hotels and elementary schools island wide to promote "music in the classrooms." This was when Kimi got her first taste of choreography, co-choregraphing an up-beat jazz number performed by the team members. A few years back, Kimi became a member of Hawaii's "first all female cabaret review," a 6 member cast.
Though dance being her first love, Kimi dabbled in and has become quite the actress. She has performed in some of Hawaii's most beautiful theatres including DHT, ACT and Paliku Theatre. She has performed and worked with some amazing performers including Frank Delima, John Rampage, Emmett Yoshioka, the late Jim Hutchison, and APA's owner, Kristi Kashibottom. Some of her favorite roles includes "Glinda" in the Wizard of Oz, "Elsa" in The Sound of Music, and "Flaps the Vulture" in The Jungle Book. She also got the amazing opportunity to choreograph for shows including Mulan and Annie.
Kimi can't imagine a life without dance, and performing. The feeling of walking onto a stage, with bright lights and eyes on your every move, from your perfectly gelled hair to your pointed toes, is a feeling every child, teen, and adult should experience once in their life. She hopes for many more opportunities in her life, will continue dancing for years to come, and hopes to be able to offer her students the same opportunities she's been given.
